Approach

Understanding and embracing the relationship between architecture, people and technology - a totally integrated approach - shapes the way we work. Our communication is non-technical, vibrant and collaborative.

We approach all our projects by first exploring their ultimate goals rather than simply accepting the details of the design brief. From there we work collaboratively with the rest of the project team through all stages of the project, from concept design to post completion, to deliver buildings that achieve financial, social and environmental objectives.

Our design process considers the fundamental parameters: site, built form, envelope, services and resources. This approach shows the symbiotic relationship between design parameters and successful optimal outcomes.

The integrated design process is crucial to delivering green buildings. It is the process by which all of the design variables that affect one another are considered together and resolved in an optimal fashion. Often referred to as holistic design, it looks at the entire building as a whole with the emphasis on integrating the different aspects of the building design. For example daylighting, natural ventilation and water conservation cut across multiple disciplines.

Daylighting in particular affects virtually every design discipline including architecture (building envelope and orientation), mechanical (reduced internal heat loads and modified fabric loads), electrical (lighting design and lighting controls), structural (floor-to-floor heights and external shading) and interiors (interior colours and reflectivity).
