Melbourne Cundall Principal David Clark has won the category of Sustainability Champion, at the UK BSJ Sustainable Building Services Awards 2008 at a gala dinner in London.
“Engineers have too often responded to the client’s brief without question, designing unsustainable systems. I believe it is the engineer’s role to challenge conventional thinking and assumptions from the outset of a project and to take a proactive role in designing better buildings – passive design not passive consulting,” David Clark.
"I consider this a Cundall award rather than a personal award, as I wouldn't have won it without the support and advice of my colleagues."
The awards, organised by Building Services Journal and Electrical and Mechanical Contractor magazines were launched last year to reward the very best in sustainable construction.

The Cundall office in Melbourne has been awarded a 5 Star NABERS rating, reconfirming Cundall's committment to demonstrating environmental leadership. The rating is based on actual energy consumption, and does not include the 100% Green Power used by the office. The rating is the highest achieved by any office tenancy in Victoria in 2007/2008, and Cundall is the only engineering design consultancy ihn Australia with a certified NABERS Energy rating for their office tenancy.
The rating was achieved through a combination of natural ventilation, thermal mass, daylight, task lighting and a committment from all staff to save energy.
